The venue rule is the part people underestimate. You cannot choose the bar, you cannot filter to a neighbourhood inside your city, and one New York reviewer was sent to the same bar two nights running. If a noisy or inconvenient venue would put you off a date, that is a real reason to skip this app rather than a detail.

One consequence worth naming early: because the app removes the chat stage, it also removes the problem of working out when to ask for the first date. That decision is made for you the moment you match.

What Breeze costs, and whether it is free

Breeze is free to download, free to build a profile on, and free to match. You only pay when a date is actually happening. In its own words: "On Breeze, you only pay when you actually go on a date. This is our only business model, no subscriptions, no ads, no selling your data."

So there is no subscription tier, and this matters more than it sounds. On most apps you can buy your way to more visibility. On Breeze that product does not exist, which kills a myth we will come back to below.

What the reviews say, including the bad part

The scores split hard depending on where you look, and you should know both numbers before you spend anything. On the UK App Store the app sits at 4.5 out of 5 from around 5,500 ratings. On Trustpilot it sits at 1.8 out of 5.

Some of that gap is structural, because people go to Trustpilot to complain and to an app store to rate an app they like. But the complaints there cluster around one thing, and it is the thing that costs money: tokens and refunds. Reviewers report losing the fee when a date falls through, including when the other person is the one who cancels, and describe having to push hard for refunds the policy appears to promise. 6 fixes when Breeze is not matching you

Everything below comes from Breeze's own documentation rather than general dating advice, because the mechanics here are unusual enough that general advice misses.

1. Widen your date preferences, then run a 7 day count

Start here, because Breeze will tell you outright that a thin batch is a supply problem. Asked why someone gets so few profiles, its answer is blunt: "That is because we don't have many possible suggestions for you." That is not a penalty on your profile. It means the pool matching your filters is small.

The test: open the app every evening for 7 days and write down how many profiles arrive. A healthy batch runs about five to ten. If you are averaging fewer than about three a day, your ceiling is supply, not your photos, and no amount of profile polishing will move it. Go to the Account tab, open Date preferences, and widen the age band and distance. Then re-run the count for another week and compare.

Waiting is normal here in a way it is not on a swiping app. The Dazed writer who tested Breeze in London waited 20 days for a first match. If you have been on it a week and seen nothing, that is not yet evidence of anything.

What it costs you: a wider net means dates with people outside your usual type, and at 10 to 15 euros a date that is a real cost, not a free experiment.

2. Join matching pools, because you are invisible in the ones you skip

This is the most overlooked setting on the app. Matching pools are, in Breeze's words, "groups you can join and create with like-minded people. You'll only see if someone is in a certain matching pool if you're in the same one."

Read that carefully. Pool membership is mutual and hidden. If you have joined none, you are not appearing to anyone browsing by shared interest, and they are not appearing to you. Joining two or three that genuinely describe you widens your pool without loosening your standards, which is the opposite trade to fix 1.

3. Rebuild the first photo, not the whole grid

Breeze says it analysed over 100,000 profiles, and its published tips are unusually specific about what fails:

4. Fill the bio and answer several Q&As

Breeze is direct about thin profiles: "Extensive profiles work better. A few selfies and minimal text won't cut it at Breeze." On the bio field specifically it says "Data tells us: bio -> more matches!"

This matters far more here than on an app with chat, because the text is the only thing anyone reads before agreeing to sit down with you. Answer more than one Q&A, keep them short, and check your grammar. Breeze flags all three. It also suggests asking for feedback from people who date the gender you are trying to attract, which is cheap and works.

5. Answer inside 72 hours, with availability you will honour

A Breeze match is not a message sitting in an inbox. It is on a clock. You get 3 days to pay for and plan your date, and the match expires if you have not paid and given your availability within 72 hours of it being created.

So a match you leave until the weekend is a match you lost. Offering one narrow slot has the same effect more slowly, because the other person has to be free at exactly that time. Give several genuinely workable windows the day the match lands.

What it costs you: committing evenings before you know whether you want them, and turning the app into something you check daily rather than when you feel like it.

6. Stop cancelling, because Breeze freezes you

Cancelling a planned date means you lose your date token, so there is money on it. Repeat cancellations trigger what Breeze calls a Breeze Freeze, which lasts "from 3 days up to 1 month." During a freeze you are not matching at all, which looks exactly like a profile that has stopped working. The two penalties stack, which is what reviewers are describing when they say they lost the fee and the account at once.

If your match count fell off a cliff rather than drifting down, check whether you have cancelled a few times recently. That is the likeliest cause, and it is the one nobody suspects. Breeze is a good app if you are tired of texting strangers for a week and meeting none of them, and a frustrating one if you live somewhere it has thin coverage. Most people who think their Breeze profile is broken are actually in one of two situations: the pool near them is small, or they have quietly been frozen for cancelling. Where we would be careful is the money. The model asks you to pay before the date happens, you cannot choose the venue, and enough reviewers report fights over refunds that the sensible assumption is that a token you buy is spent. Buy one and try it. Do not buy a discounted package until a date has actually gone ahead.

The part that is genuinely in your control is narrower than on other apps, and also simpler. One strong first photo, a filled in bio, a few pools joined, and availability you will actually honour.
